The impact of migration on rural development in Bursa, Karacabey was discussed at a roundtable meeting.
In cooperation with MATILDE Turkey partners İstanbul Bilgi University and Support to Life Association, the meeting was held at Karacabey Chamber of Commerce and Industry on October 27. Representatives from local administrations and professional organizations such as Marmara Municipalities Union, Karacabey Municipality Social Aid Affairs Directorate, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as Aid to Syrian Immigrants Association representatives and health personnel from the Migrant Health Center undertaking an EU funded access to heath project (Sıhhat / Health) attended the roundtable meeting. Local media was also present in the meeting.
At the roundtable meeting, the current outputs of the action research held in Karacabey in the summer and autumn months of 2021 were presented by Istanbul Bilgi University researchers were presented by Prof. Dr. Ayhan Kaya and and Dr. Fatma Yılmaz Elmas (BILGI). In the workshop held afterwards, the relationship between rural development and migration was discussed in particular on agricultural production, access to labor markets, health services and social cohesion with respect to threats, opportunities and policy recommendations.
The outputs of the meeting will be used in the new WP5 report to be published in the coming months as part of the MATILDE project.
