Self-Assessment Toolbox for Practitioners & Policy Makers
The aim of this toolbox is to support practitioners and policy makers in assessing the status quo of their own integration work in order to identify potentials for transformation and improvement. Policy makers, not only at the local and regional levels, but also at the national and European levels will also receive suggestions on how to upscale the described tools in order to obtain information on current framework conditions and influences for decision-making processes with regard to specific needs in rural and mountain areas.
Guidelines on the content and use of the tools
MATILDE uses a mixed-methods approach of quantitative, qualitative as well as participatory action research methods in collaboration between researchers and practitioners to assess the social and economic impact of third-country nationals in rural and mountainous areas. This transdisciplinary environment of researchers and practitioners in MATILDE aims to actively involve stakeholders. Therefore, a common basis of methods and tools is needed, which need to be further developed and adapted to local needs (Gruber et al. 2020). Based on the MATILDE toolbox for researchers (Kordel et al. 2022), a toolbox for policy makers as well as for administrative staff and stakeholders in NGOs or public services at all levels of government, from local to EU levels, was created. For this purpose, existing tools have been adapted and further developed for easy use by policy makers and practitioners, which are presented below.
Further details and information on documentation, scaling options, levels of participation as well as citizen activation, and standardisation can be found in the Self-assessment Toolbox for Practitioners and Policy Makers (Gruber et al. 2022).f
